"Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers - strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength."   Barbara Katz Rothman, Ph.D.

Calming Guidance Doula Services includes the following services:

• Getting Acquainted
• At Least One Prenatal Visit
• Continuous Labor Support
• A Postpartum Visit
• A Common Bond

Getting Acquainted
This is the first stage in our relationship.  At this meeting we (many times just the mother and myself) get to know one another over a cup of coffee or a bite to eat in a public place, such as Starbucks or Panera.  We usually plan on meeting for about an hour in order to discuss such things as your needs and wishes for your birthing experience, and how you envision a doula fitting into this process.  There is no obligation to hire me at this point.  Actually, I would prefer that you go home and think about it for a few hours or overnight.

Prenatal Visit
When you decide that you would like to have me as your birth doula, we make arrangements to have a prenatal meeting around your 36th week.  Typically, I will visit your home and meet with both you and your husband or partner.  This is important so that we can all become more familiar and comfortable with one another and get on the same “page”, so to speak.  I will ask for more details concerning your needs and desires for labor and delivery.  We will address any concerns or fears you may have, go over your birth plan, and even practice some comfort and relaxation techniques that can be utilized before and during labor.

Continuous Labor Support
Once labor begins and you feel you would like an extra level of support, you will call me and I will come to you.  In very early labor, I may come to your home to assist you there before we move on to the hospital.  Once I am with you after the onset of labor, I will continue to assist you for an hour or two after your baby is born.  There are no time limits on this phase as each birth experience is unique and my role is to serve you and be your advocate.

Postpartum Meeting
When you are settled and at home after the birth of your baby, I will call you to check and see how you and baby are doing.  On this call we will schedule a postpartum meeting where I will visit your home.  During the visit we can discuss your birth experience and I will do my best to fill in any blanks you might have about that special day.  I will offer you support and encouragement as well.

A Common Bond
Any time I have the privilege of assisting a family, I consider it a great honor.  It is more than likely that we will form a special bond over our shared experience of the day your precious child was born.  It is not uncommon for a doula and family to stay in touch for years after a birth.

COST OF SERVICES
The cost of doula services often varies.  Please contact me for pricing and availability.  However, the payment process usually works this way:  Upon signing a contract with Calming Guidance Doula Services, one half of the contract total is due.  Then, the remainder of the fee is paid by your 38th week of pregnancy.
